Since 2018, A&R Textil has been supporting the establishment and maintenance of sewing schools in Arusha/Tanzania through two associations (Najali – ein Herz für Tansania e.V. and Hand in Hand for Tanzania e.V.).
The sewing schools are part of an aid project for women in need. Thanks to the training in the sewing schools, they have the chance to create a basis of livelihood for themselves and their children. In this way, they secure their living.
After the women have learned to sew and tailor under expert guidance, they receive support from the two associations in developing a business idea, in financing and in successfully setting up and running a small business.
In addition to providing a perspective for a self-determined life, the sewing schools offer the women a place to meet like-minded people, exchange ideas and have a bit of fun. The sewing lessons are also a bright spot in the everyday lifes of the Tanzanian women, whose lifes are often hard – single parents, with one or more children, without work or income, often living in a small one-room mud hut or a corrugated iron shack.
