What are Technical Textiles?
Technical Textiles are textiles that are specially developed and manufactured to meet specific technical requirements. They go beyond the purely aesthetic or comfort-related properties of conventional textiles.
Functionality
Technical Textiles are designed to provide certain functions, such as strength, durability, heat or cold protection, sound insulation, fire protection, moisture regulation, protection against chemical or biological influences, electrical conductivity or other specific properties.
Applications
Technical Textiles are used in a wide range of industries and areas, such as the automotive industry, aerospace, construction, medicine, sport and leisure, protective clothing, environmental protection and many more.
Materials
Technical Textiles can be made from a variety of materials, alone or in combination with each other, depending on the specific requirements of the application. Commonly used materials are: Polyester and nylon, aramid fibers (such as Kevlar and Nomex), polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), glass fibers, carbon fibers, technical membranes, and natural fibers (such as cotton, linen, wool).

Examples of Technical Textiles include fabrics for airbags, geotextiles for soil stabilization, fireproof clothing for firefighters, medical textiles such as implants and prostheses, or textile material for filter applications.
