The Neukirch Bürgerbus started rolling in mid-2018. The minibus is there for all the people of Neukirch who rely on assistance to get around. This means mainly senior citizens and people with disabilities, but children may use the service too. Naturally, it is free of charge.
Scheduled travel times are always Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day. Apart from that, the bus travels to the Hockstube meetings, the social meetings aimed at senior citizens at the parish community centre, between 12 noon and 6 p.m.
The social project on four wheels is a joint initiative by the Gemeinde [district] of Neukirch and the newly founded “Bürgerbus Neukirch e.V.” society. The Gemeinde bought the vehicle, the organisation runs the transport service and provides the approximately 25 volunteer drivers. They now all wear the sponsored polo shirts provided by A&R Textil when on duty.
